History of Liberty Baptist Church

1846

A few individuals established a local fellowship of believers in Chelsea, Alabama, and became known as Liberty Baptist Church. These believers continued to partner with God in His kingdom work and Liberty Baptist Church was among the first ten originating churches of the Shelby Baptist Association in 1852.

1910

The first building was erected on the present site and is the same building that serves as our youth building of today.

1961

When the time came to paint the existing building, the pastor who was serving at the time stated, “Why paint? Let’s brick!” It was a major turning point in vision–looking to the future!

1969

In 1969, the growth of the church family demanded more facilities. New classrooms and Fellowship Hall were added. The average attendance at that time had grown to 75.

1984-1989

In 1984, planning began for a new auditorium. The campaign title, “Believe in a Miracle” told the story of the dedication and determination of the church family as they worked nights and weekends to complete the work using their own resources and labor.

1996-1997

In 1996, a new Education Building and Fellowship Hall were constructed that met the needs of a congregation with an attendance of over 300 in Bible Study. Even then, the church family felt that the greatest days of growth were just around the corner.

Reaching His Kids

August 2005

A new children and preschool facility was completed in August 2005! This new addition added more than 28,000 square feet of children & preschool space in a two-story facility, with an additional 120 parking spaces, and over 4,000 square feet of hallway that joins all existing facilities!

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

From April 2004 to August 2005, the family of Liberty Baptist has seen God's hand of provision as progress on the new children and preschool facility continued on a steady pace. Today is an exciting time for all of us. It is through your obedience to God’s call and commitment to His purpose that we stand on the threshold of some of the greatest opportunities of ministry that Liberty Baptist has ever seen. Together with God's blessings, we have turned Vision into Reality!” As we dedicate this new facility today for “Kingdom purpose,” I am grateful to the first group of believers that met in 1846 to establish Liberty Baptist Church. Because of their vision, we now stand ready to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to one of the fastest growing communities in Alabama. Know that we are blessed to minister to our community today because of the steadfast commitment of those who went before us. Now, may those who come behind us find us faithful!

When I walk through the children's facility, in my mind I hear songs about Jesus. I see smiling faces of servants who love the Lord and serve with a passion for Jesus. I hear Bible stories, like Noah’s Ark, being told with great excitement to children for the first time. I hear the shrills of excited children coming down the “slide.” I hear praise and worship coming out of the “theatre room” as children learn to worship. I hear the Bible read and memory verses cited. I hear stories about missionaries. But the most precious sounds I can hear are a child's voice praying: “Dear Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I know that you are God's Son who died on the cross in my place. I am guilty and I need forgiveness. I desire to turn away from my sin and I ask you to forgive me and be my Savior today.” Wow! I fully believe God will call out young men and women to be “world changers” from these kingdom ministries. Thank you for sharing in His Kingdom work!

Preschool Department

When entering the Preschool area, the children are greeted by a Noah’s Ark them.

With 12 classrooms, an activity room, offices, and fully equpped kitchen, this area provides the tools necessary to minister to the needs of preschool children.

Preteen &

Children’s Department

The theme of the Preteen and Children’s area is “God’s Kingdom.” This area has 11 classrooms, a preteen activity room with game tables and stations, fully equipped kitchen, a slide that will take them from the upper level to the lower level, and the Theatre Room.

The desire of our preteen and children’s ministries is to lead each one to an understanding of becoming a member of God’s Kingdom both here on earth and in Heaven.

Theatre Room

Located in the lower level of the new facility, the theatre room is equipped with state-of-the-art audio and video equipment.

Using this technology, preteens and children are given the opportunity to worship and learn about God’s love through but understand that the core of worship is all about Jesus!
